Arcomelo 2013

International Symposium “Arcomelo 2013”

Fusignano, 29 - 30 November 2013.

Celebrating the 300th Anniversary of the death of Arcangelo Corelli (1653-1713)

City of Fusignano and Grandezze & Meraviglie, Festival Musicale Estense,

in collaboration with Istituto Abruzzese di Storia Musicale, Royal Conservatory of The Hague (The Netherlands) and Butler School of Music – The University of Texas at Austin.

Three centuries after his death, Arcangelo Corelli continues to be a central figure in 17th- and 18th-century music history, and his compositions still are an essential aesthetic and pedagogical point of reference. Generations of musicians and composers have recognized and admired the exemplary character of Corelli’s oeuvre as a model of style and form. While research has mainly focused on Corelli’s historical and biographical essentials, the significance of his role calls for a comprehensive study of his instrumental works and of the specific characteristics of his musical language. The symposium’s aim is to present the most recent investigations on the composer and to encourage innovative research emphasizing problems connected to performance practice and stylistic characteristics of Corelli’s music.

Scientific committee: Enrico Gatti (Royal Conservatoire, Den Haag, NL - Conservatorio "G.Verdi", Milan. IT), Guido Olivieri (The University of Texas, Austin, USA), Agnese Pavanello (Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, Basel, CH), Marc Vanscheeuwijck, (University of Oregon, Eugene, USA), Francesco Zimei (Istituto Abruzzese di Storia Musicale, IT).

The program committee welcomes proposals for 20-minute individual papers related to the theme of the symposium.

Proposals should include an abstract not exceeding 250 words with the title of the paper; neither the author’s name, nor any other identifying information should be included in this file. The title of the paper along with the author’s full name should appear in a separate file also containing the presenter’s e-mail address and a short CV (max. one page). The abstract should clearly articulate the main aspects of the argument, the state of research and sources used, as well as the relevance and originality of the author’s contribution.

Both files, one with title and abstract, the other with name, title, e-mail address, and short CV of the presenter should be sent electronically to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by April 1st, 2013.

Although the program committee will give preference to contributions that focus on the proposed topics, it reserves the right to also consider proposals dealing either with more general aspects of Corelli’s oeuvre or with other musicians and composers of Corelli’s time.

Lodging and meal expenses for the presenters at the symposium will be covered by the organization.

In order to expedite the publication of the proceedings, presenters will be asked to provide a Word file of their essay in conformity with the editorial norms included in the letter of acceptance. Presenters will then have 60 days after the symposium to finalize their text before publication.
